Preparation of the patient

-Plain CT needs no preparation.
-Contrast CT needs the patient in a fasting condition for 4-6 hours before doing the examination according to its age(infant for 4 hours and adult for 6 hours).
-The contrast used is water soluble contrast such as telebrix with dose 1-2 ml/kg body weight.
-We could needs anesthesia in case of children and uncooperative patients(comatosed or semi conscious).
-Cases need contrast injection as cold cases such as headache, epilepsy or signs of increased intra cranial tension.
-Cases does not need contrast injection such as traumatic cases and cardiovascular stroke.
-The ideal mechanism nowdays are to make non contrast study first, then according to findings we can make a decisions to inject the contrast, so the patient should be from the first fasting.
-The difference between  non contrast image and contrast one is that in the latter you can see the cerebral vessels while in the former no vessels seen.
