Osteoarthritis

1-Osteoarthritis affects facet joints and sacro-iliac joints.

2-Anatomically, the joint space is formed from articular surface and joint space.

3-There are three changes occur in the joint space and other three changes occur in articular surface in case of osteoarthritis.

4-In the articular surface:
-Sub articular sclerosis.
-Sub articular cystic changes.
-Osteophytic lipping.

5-In the joint space:
-Narrowing.
-Vacuum phenomena.
-Disc calcification.

Nonenhanced axial CT scan of the sacrum shows a small sacral osteophyte (small arrow) and subchondral sclerosis of the sacral side of the sacroiliac joint (large arrows) due to osteoarthritis.
