It can be classified as the following:
1-Look to the back of the child if there is a mass or not.
2-If there is a back mass, look if this mass is covered with skin or not.
3-If it is covered, so it is called spina bifida cystica.
4-If it is not covered with skin, it is known as spina bifida aperta.
For that we can use mnemonic CA (CALCIUM),
5-If there is no back mass, it will be known as spina bifida occulta.
